Good Free Summer Music "The Mini EP" by Versa

     The EP is short and sweet. 7 tracks will reintroduce you to this lyrical Christian artist with Memphis, Tn and Jackson, Ms roots. He currently resides in Houston, Tx.

   I met Versa in 2009 through our frat brother Gibbs Hightower. I was delighted to find out that I have an Iota frat brother who shares my interest in the Gospel Rap Ministry. When we began to chop it up I was intrigued by his mutual appreciation of a high standard of excellence in the Holy Hip Hop Arts. A high standard which we both share in our respective ministries on our various projects.

     "The Mini EP" is no different. The first thing that came to my mind the first time I heard it is that this is great riding music! If you like a unique lyrical rapping style and production sound you will definitely enjoy this short yet sweet project. Ministry is at the core of each and every song as he strategically shares his testimony while telling his life story and also skillfully takes you back in time where you can see what Jesus went through on Calvary. He also managed to do a good job with variety on the project as well. Displaying all dimensions of his artistry God has blessed him with. All songs are written, engineered, mastered, mixed and produced by Versa. I couldn't help but notice there are several skilled male and female vocalist on this project as well. One of which is Tasha Jackson who will be singing on my "Fresh Manna" album. The use of R&P singers will bid well for those of you who like a smooth R&B singing style on your plate with your rap entree.

    If I had to pick one track to be my most favorite track on the EP I would have to say it's the intro track "Stay Focused". I like that 70's twang it has on it. Kind of reminds me of the "American Gangster" sound track as well. The song is also great motivation for those of us trying to accomplish goals in this life. Everyone should be able to relate to this particular record.

Date Night

     Last night we began recording "Date Night" featuring Uncle Earl and Nika Douglas. The moment I heard the track from producer JMyth back in October when I was beat shopping I knew this would be a special song. He titled the track "Stepping 80's" on sound cloud. It was one of his earliest tracks that had been on the market for some years. As you know I love unconventional tracks that your average rapper can not or will not attempt to rhyme to. I'm constantly looking for outside the box tracks with a unique sound when I am beat shopping. Needless to say the "Stepping 80's" track grabbed me and would not let go. To me it has an 80's Michael Jackson type feel with a driving kick on every down beat, synthesizers, and a plethora of keyboard arpeggios. It makes me envision someone playing a keytar on stage.

     

It wasn't to long after hearing the track for the first time that the Holy Spirit gave me an idea to do a song called "Date Night". However, he still hadn't given me the way my delivery would be on it. He did put a vision in my mind to do a music video with ballroom dancing, with a couple in the story line. He also told me to make it a singing duet exchange between a male and female vocalist. I'm positive that you will enjoy the smooth vocals of Uncle Earl and Nika Douglas on this song. The track literally places you in a romantic trance. It will be sure to get you in the mood for romance for years to come. I can picture people listening to it as they get ready for their Friday night date or jamming it on the way to their date holding hands. The song will make you think of that special someone in your life no matter how long or short you have been together. I'm a romantic brother so I really enjoyed creating this song.

     From the moment I heard the beat I had big plans for "Date Night". I plan to do a music video for this one and release it as the single that precedes the full "Fresh Manna" album. For some reason I love to do things that are uncommon. Most rappers ,with the exception of one particular main stream one, would release their hypest quote un quote turn up song as their single. While I understand why most take this approach I choose to put the ladies first. I'm a gentlemen and as a gentlemen I feel that it is always important to cater to women. I am also aware that most of my biggest supporters in my music career are women. At least they are the vocals ones about it. So to all the women who enjoy my music take this song as a token of my appreciation to you. I hope you like it.

     To the men that support me I appreciate you as well. I made this song for you to. We need more clean romantic songs that we can play to aid in our approaches at romance to make our lady feel special and set the mood. Like I wrote in the song "Whatever you did to get her... you have to do that to keep her..." always remember that. Never stop dating your girlfriend or your wife no matter how long yall been together. It will keep the spark alive in your relationship and keep things fresh, new and exciting. That lets just chill at the house and watch a movie stuff ain't gonna cut it. That is cool sometimes, but women like to have an excuse to dress up. Ask any of them. They like to look nice. So take them to more places than just Chili's  and the movies. That gets old and redundant quick. If you need some ideas get at me on my websites contact link .      Here are a few nice date night ideas. Take your lady dancing or to a dance class. Women love to dance. I understand most guys don't like to do it. I don't really like to dance either unless I'm on stage or doing a line dance in a party setting but I'll do it for my lady. Take her to a concert, the symphony, or the opera. Take her to a play or a comedy show. You could also take her to a jazz club or a lounge somewhere where yall can hear some good music being played by a live band or sung. They have Christian clubs you can attend as well. I know in Houston we have two. One is called The Difference. Its open every other Sunday Night. They also have the Z lounge I believe this one is open once a month.You could also take her to a poetry lounge to hear some spoken word. Yall could attend church together or concerts at church or church musicals, and church banquets. Take your lady on a dinner cruise. If you are going to take your significant other to a dinner take her to a nice dinner where they have a dress code at a place like Eddie V's, Vic and Anthony's Steak House or McCormicks. A 5 star place where you have to make a reservation to dine. Make sure you prepared to pay about $150 for yall dinner and tip though. You can also cook a candle lit dinner for your lady where you ask her to dress up, and you wear a suit. You could play soft love songs while yall eat and talk by the candle light. She'll love that!

     

     On a casual tip you can have a picnic together either at the beach or in the park. You could attend those free concerts and plays they have in the park. In Houston they have them at Miller Outdoor Theater. Yall could attend a sporting event together. Make sure she likes sports though and make sure it's for a sport she likes not just stuff you like. If you stay in a nice neighborhood that's safe you can go for a walk in your neighborhood by the lake. You could have a gym date where you workout together. Go to the pool hall, Dave and Busters or bowling. The list goes on. My point is date your women forever. There is no excuse not to. There are lots of things you can do. Keep things exciting.


     When the song drops I hope you enjoy it. I pray it encourages lots of dates and holy romance. Like I say in the song "Holy Romance Essential my love for you is spirit lead". Your love should be spirit lead and holy romance is essential to the success of your relationship. When your wife plays this song in the house where you can hear it take the hint and take her out.
